For those curious about the various spray painted markings recently seen on city streets and sidewalks, The Blackshear Times has spoken with Blackshear Superintendent of Public Works Wallace Tomlinson.
With lots of work currently going on in the city, spray paint has been put down to mark the placement of various utilities hidden beneath the surface.
The color code breaks down which type of service lies below: red is power, blue is water, orange is telephone and fiberoptic, yellow is gas and green is everyone’s favorite—sewage.
If residents have questions about what utilities might lurk beneath their own yards, Georgia 811, a non-profit corporation which promotes public safety, encourages those with questions to call 811 or 1-800-282-7411 before they dig.
