Happy 4th of July! The Sheriff would like to remind everyone to be safe and enjoy their family and friends during this weekend and upcoming holiday.
FIREWORK SAFETY:
1. Must be 18 years old or older to purchase or be in possession fireworks in the State of Georgia.
2. Always wear safety glasses when shooting fireworks.
3. State of Georgia Code states - You may shoot fireworks between 10am and 11:59pm.
New Years Eve is the only night you can shoot fireworks off up until 1am.
4. Do NOT use fireworks if you are impaired, this includes prescribed medications which have precautions.
5. It is unlawful to use fireworks on public roads, streets, highways, or on railroads.
6. Use fireworks OUTDOORS and away from structures and vehicles.
7. Always have a bucket of water and charged water hose nearby.
8. Do not experiment with homemade fireworks.
9. It is unlawful to light fireworks within 100 yards of electric plants, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, gas stations, refinery, electric substation, jail or prison, helipad, hospital, nursing home or other health care facility.
