Over 340 anglers reeled in a Georgia Angler Award last year. Now, program organizers ask if those numbers can be beaten in 2025. The Angler Award program recognizes individuals who catch fish that meet or exceed a specific weight or length for that species, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD).

Day of Prayer set for Thursday Services to be held in Offerman and at Courthouse

Pierce County will have two National Day of Prayer observances tomorrow, Thursday, May 1. The first observance will be at noon at Offerman City Park and an evening observance will be held at 6 p.m. at a new location — the Pierce County Court House. The Rev. James Lightsey, pastor of Offerman Baptist Church, is the coordinator for the Offerman event. Last day of school for the school system will be Tuesday, May 20. “Our seniors will have already completed their requirements for graduation prior to May 20. We wanted to keep graduation on Friday night, so our seniors will graduate before the last day of school,” explained School Superintendent Dara Bennett. Speakers include the Rev. James Lightsey, The Rev. Greg Carter and the Rev. Clinton Kearney. The Rev. Lightsey encourages all residents to attend the observance. The evening observance will be held at the courthouse. Youmans Chapel to hold spring fling

Youmans Chapel Baptist Church will hold a spring fling Sunday, May 4, following the morning service until 3 p.m. The event will be for all age groups. Hot dogs and fixings will be served along with snow cones, popcorn and funnel cakes. There will be a bouncy for the younger age group and games for all age groups including adults. Pastor Jimmy Thrift invites all ages to attend. Youmans Chapel is located on Dean Still Road in Blackshear.

No ID yet on body found in pond

A death investigation is now underway in connection to a body discovered Tuesday morning, April 8, in a pond in the area of Doris and Sinclair Roads just west of Offerman.
